Problem with PC shutting down unexpectedly
I'm experiencing a problem where my PC shuts down and restarts randomly, without any BSOD or error messages in Windows event logs. This mostly occurs during gaming sessions, especially with MMO games at average to high settings. Sometimes it works for several hours, but it crashes after about 15 minutes. I've performed stress tests and the system hasn't crashed. A local repair shop checked it after a week on standby and found no issues. Temperatures are normal—GPU is hot but not spiking, CPU is around 45°C under load. Reliability monitor keeps showing "Windows was not properly shut down." I think the power supply unit might be faulty, but I'm trying to gather more advice before replacing it.
Specs:
CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 - 5800X
GPU: MSI Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3x 10g
RAM: Corsair Vengence RGB PRO DDR4 RAM 32GB 3600MHz
MOBO: Asus Prime x570-P
PSU: Corsair HX1000
the mobo has experienced random failures, starting from one usb port, the ethernet port, and the m.2 pcie port.
what is its age? have you tried booting with another vid card, tested each memory stick (memtest), used a different m2 ssd, or other drives? checked drive stability using cristaldiskinfo?
have you installed bios or driver updates? when was the most recent fresh install?
you might want to check the disks and scan for corruption in windows too
use ~ cmd ~ right click and open as administrator
type ~ sfc /scannow
... let it run
use ~ dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth... let it run
cleandisk and defrag (even on a ssd helps occasionally)
The build is only a few years old, so I’m not keen on starting from scratch if possible. The problem has been present but is growing more often, making it necessary to either resolve it or create something new. I’ve completed multiple memtests without finding any issues. All drivers are current, and no problems were detected with either drive. The sfc/scannow scan showed no errors, and the restore health check finished successfully.
if the issue has persisted, I’m convinced it’s the motherboard. to emphasize, this particular board has faced numerous problems that have been discussed in various forums. based on what I’ve read, if it’s hardware-related, software won’t fix it. i’d consider returning it if it’s still under warranty or switch to another board while keeping your existing components.
