Problem with PC: Boot Time Exceeds 10 Minutes
I'm sharing this because my desktop, which previously would start up in less than a minute, has now begun to freeze during the boot phase. It shows the ASUS logo followed by a prompt to press a button for BIOS access, then the screen turns black and the case's power button flashes for roughly five minutes. After that, the logo reappears and remains on display for another five minutes before the system finally launches into Windows.
I understand that once it boots normally, everything seems fine, but I’m puzzled about why this behavior started. My setup includes: ASUS ROG Strix B550-F (BIOS version 1202 x64), Nvidia 3070Ti graphics, 500GB NVMe storage (Western Digital Black SN 750), 4TB NVMe (Western Digital Black SN850X), a Ryzen 7 3700x processor with 8 cores, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, Windows 10 64-bit, Corsair RM 750 750W ATX 12V, and a modular PSU that’s been in use for four years.
I replaced the graphics card about a year ago and switched from a standard SSD to a 4TB NVMe drive six months ago. There’s no RAID configuration.
I attempted to fix the issue by removing and replacing the CMOS battery, using chkdsk to check drives, scanning for missing or corrupted Windows files (some were found and resolved), updating Windows, enabling fast boot, and then re-enabling it after a failed attempt. However, the problem continues. I’ve only connected my mouse and keyboard at startup.
Could anyone explain why this is happening? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I was mistaken about the device type—I actually had a WD Black SN850X, so I corrected that in the post. The BIOS was updated to version 3611 for my Mobo, and the newest chipset drivers were installed, yet the problem remains unresolved. I don’t have an account on another platform to share images with CrystalDiskInfo, but I performed a test on both drives and both reported a "Good" health status (100%) with no critical warnings.
Was die CMOS nach dem BIOS-Update gelöscht?
Was zeigt der Task-Manager/Performance/Startup hinsichtlich des BIOS-Zeits?
The system time in Task Manager/Performance/Startup was 7.7 seconds (not sure what that means). I didn't attempt clearing CMOS yet, but I suspect I might have resolved it this morning:
I observed my C drive was full with roughly 1.3 million tiny 2 kb files named "fba_ads," followed by a sequence of numbers ending in .JSON. Based on timestamps, these began appearing as the issue started. After some investigation, I discovered these files were likely generated by Facebook Metaquest (I had an Oculus Rift S with this setup), so I removed them all and uninstalled Metaquest. I've only restarted it once since doing that (they took nearly 2 hours to move to the Recycle Bin), but it now boots in under 30 seconds as before.
I'm hoping this resolved the problem, thank you for your help.
From what I understand, the issue is resolved! Thanks for your assistance.
