Hi everyone. My main router (F RITZ!Box 7560) is in the living room and my PC is on the other side of the flat. My PC doesn’t have WiFi, so I set up my Asus router (RT-N11P) as a repeater and connected it to my PC. Everything seems to work properly. However, when someone is streaming TV shows like Netflix or online movies, my internet speed drops significantly on my PC. At first I thought the connection was too slow, but using my mobile device works fine with Full HD videos. On my PC, I can only watch in 480p quality. What should I do? I’m considering upgrading my internet plan, but it would take some time.

The ASUS router is linked to the main router via a wired Ethernet connection or through a built-in LAN port.

You're referring to a wireless bridge, and since the TV uses WiFi, there might be reduced speed between your Fritz!Box and the Asus router.

Through WiFi, as I mentioned, it’s functioning as a repeater.

It might improve the connection if you link your TV using an Ethernet cable.

Consider testing a connection by running a cable to your PC, even briefly, and repeat: This helps determine if the issue lies with the WiFi or your broader internet link. If the problem stems from the WiFi, we can discuss more effective fixes—often involving physical wiring or powerline solutions. Otherwise, you may need to upgrade your internet service plan.

I’d give it a shot too. Also check your wireless configuration on the routers—adjust the frequency and ensure it’s set to the broadest range possible. Usually older equipment runs at 20MHz/40MHz; aim for 40MHz and consider boosting power settings if needed.

It might be due to both the TV and the ASUS router overwhelming the main router's wireless performance. The current setup doesn’t seem very strong, and I’d definitely consider upgrading. You could think about getting a DSL modem and a better router instead. I changed from an ASUS router via DSL to a modem and a Linksys model and was really satisfied. Just remember to mention people who respond to your comments so they can see your reply.

I'm about to verify the settings; if it doesn't resolve the issue, I'll attempt to connect my TV via cable.

You're asking about updating both routers or just the one from Asus. Let me know what you'd like to do.
