Problem with office network connection. Devices not responding.
Hey everyone. The issue is my router keeps resetting. I’m using Spectrum 300Mbps internet, with a modem at home, then a BRT-ac828 router, followed by a 48-port PoE switch. That switch is brand new. I contacted Spectrum and they sent me a new router that doesn’t cause outages. The problem started after connecting an ASUS Nighthawk to the old setup, along with my previous Linksys devices. I upgraded to a business-class model because of the instability. I’m thinking an IP conflict might be the cause. I’ve reset and restarted the router several times but it’s still expensive. I have 15 connections on the switch—one for security cameras, four or eight ports busy on the router, plus some wireless links. It’s not a bottleneck anywhere. I’ve faced this issue with all routers except my Spectrum unit. Something needs to be fixed so the connection stays stable. My office phones rely on the internet; without it, we lose income. Please help!
I've had a pretty negative experience with these types of routers. They seem more like consumer models rather than business-grade devices. When things try to handle everything at once, they usually become unreliable. If you need strong VOIP performance, go for routers like Edgerouter, Mikrotik, Zyxel or Cisco—they focus on routing and often support QoS for voice traffic. They’re also very stable. For the rest of your network, you can use a bridge device like the brt-ac828.
Spectrum supplied a specific modem and router model. It’s good to have that detail. Are your devices complaining about IP conflicts or similar issues? Ideally, there should be just one DHCP server—usually integrated into the router. If you lack multiple servers, that could cause problems. What signs are you noticing? For example, does your computer disconnect from the network completely, or is the network functional but the internet fails?
You're employing low-quality materials in a professional context for practical reasons, such as testing performance or reducing costs.
I think its an IP conflict because it said that on one of the computers I was on but it hasnt been an error since. That is the only error I have seen that has made any sense. The router is a Sagecom Fast5280 RAC2V1S and its in a Spectrum box that is tall and rectangular. 4 Port with USB and WiFi. That is the main reason we need the router is for WiFi. The internet goes down entirely because only one device is plugged into the modem and everything stems off the modem. From previous experience, all spots on the modem lose internet, but I will see about watching that. We didn't start up with the ability to use professional grade equipment from the start coming out of moms basement. But that is why I am taking the steps now. The internet worked today all day until about 430pm. That is about 12 computers online simultaniously.
