Problem with NVMe SSD not being detected on boot
The SSD stopped working unexpectedly during use and isn't detected in BIOS, making it impossible to boot. The issue started after a Firefox freeze, inability to terminate the process, and errors in journalctl and dmesg. After rebooting, the system launched Windows instead of GRUB on the second drive, and the drive was removed from the boot order in BIOS. I tried reseating the SSD but didn’t resolve it. I’m seeking advice to troubleshoot further, hoping to recover data before replacement, especially since I haven’t backed up recent work.
I managed to test the drive on another machine and it functioned properly there. I thought maybe the motherboard was the problem, but then I tried using their computer to create a bootable Linux USB to check if it could see the drive. Surprisingly, it did! I was able to mount my NVMe drive and transfer my important files. I’m curious about why it’s detected here but not in my BIOS.
