Problem with New Ryzen 7 9800X3D Build – CPU and RAM Debug Lights Are Active (Request Assistance)
Hello everyone, I hope someone can assist me. I recently completed the assembly of my new PC but it’s not booting at all. There’s no signal, no POST, nothing at all. The debug lights on my MSI board indicate issues with both the CPU and RAM — and I’m running out of options.
🔧 Details:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Motherboard: MSI X870 Gaming Plus WiFi
- RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (KF560C30BBK2-64)
- Cooler: Arctic Freezer II 280 AIO
- PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W (also tested with another PSU)
- GPU: Not installed for testing — using basic boot configuration
❌ What’s Happening:
The system powers on, fans spin, the AIO runs, but there’s no display or POST. The CPU and RAM debug LEDs remain active on the motherboard. There are no beeps, no BIOS activation, nothing indicating a boot attempt.
✅ Attempts Made:
- Booted with just the CPU and one RAM stick, no GPU or drives
- Swapped PSU to a known working unit
- Replaced CPU and checked cooler pressure (not overly tight)
- Tested both RAM sticks individually in different slots
- Cleared CMOS multiple times
- Retailer tested CPU and motherboard — both confirmed functional
- BIOS version should support the 9800X3D out of the box
💡 Theory:
I’m considering the RAM could be the issue. It’s a 64GB module at 6000MHz CL30, which is dual rank and quite demanding. X3D CPUs can be sensitive to memory configuration, especially with non-QVL kits. Could this be why both the CPU and RAM indicators stay on?
📩 What I’m Looking For:
Any additional suggestions before purchasing more RAM just to verify?
Thanks ahead of time — any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
The debug LEDs on my MSI board indicate CPU and RAM issues.
Have you checked the CPU socket for any bent or damaged pins? Are the RAM slots A2 and B2 properly filled?

I notice the spec sheet doesn’t mention AMD’s E.X.P.O for this RAM model—it’s intended for Intel systems. If I were you, I’d replace it with a kit that advertises AMD’s E.X.P.O.

The BIOS should support the 9800X3D by default.
You can attempt to update the BIOS using this guide:

to avoid compatibility problems.
i plan to return the ram and get one specifically for amd, that's the only option i've considered so far
