Problem with MSI B450I RAM module QVL compatibility and installation issues
I want to upgrade my RAM to a 32GB package. I have an MSI B450I Gaming AC motherboard with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Currently, I own a F4-3200C16D-16GVKB unit that functions properly and shows up in the BIOS. I recently purchased a F4-3200C16D-32GVK without checking the QVL, as it’s the same RipjawsV model but with more capacity (same brand, speed, latency, etc.). However, my system isn’t booting. I checked the MSI website and noticed they recommend F4-3200C16D-32GVR for compatibility. Other than the color, I can’t tell what’s different. I updated the BIOS before installing the new RAM (a brand-new kit from Newegg under warranty). Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!
Start by reinstalling the old RAM and confirming it boots correctly. Then test the new RAM individually, one stick at a time. QVRs aren’t the only factor affecting compatibility, and unless you’re using extremely fast RAM, I’ve seldom seen reliable performance without other RAM working properly.
Did you use an XMP profile with your previous setup? Did you establish default settings before switching to the new unit? You might want to try that. If your old unit isn't accessible now, consider resetting the CMOS (check your motherboard's guide or look up the forum).
I should have been more careful. A basic CMOS reset works well. Appreciate the tip.
