I regret the lengthy message, yet I aimed to cover every detail carefully. My current setup includes:
- ASUS PRIME Z390-A
- i9 9900K @ 4.7 (no AI overclocking)
- 16 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 3200
- Corsair RMX white (2018) 750W gold rated
- Main drive: Samsung 840 EVO SSD with UEFI GPT install of Windows 10 Pro 64bit (previously Windows 10 Home on MBR)
- MSI 1070 Armor 8GB OC (clocked with vbios 86.04.50.40.DF)
Initially, the GPU was turning off by Windows with error 43, but it appeared in Device Manager. I thought it needed new drivers, so I uninstalled with DDU and reinstalled. The problem continued—UEFI mode was off, using legacy BIOS, and CSM was enabled. I tried reseating the PCIe slot, checked other slots, and sometimes the system booted fine.
After a clean install of Windows 10 with UEFI, I flashed the BIOS to the latest version. It worked temporarily. I installed all drivers, updated BIOS, and used tools like Driver Easy to fix missing ones. The GPU finally recognized properly after adjusting BIOS settings and enabling UEFI mode on the motherboard.
However, issues resurfaced after a power cut in the U.K., causing driver updates and intermittent boot failures. I also experimented with an older GTX 780 card and a Quadro K620 workstation card, but they didn’t resolve the problem.
The recurring error 43, CSM instability, and random blue screens suggested deeper BIOS or compatibility issues. Despite troubleshooting, I’m still unsure of the root cause. I’m close to replacing the motherboard, fearing it might trigger the same problems.
I’ve consulted experts before, but this build remains challenging. I’m hoping for guidance on specific settings or driver tweaks. Please let me know if I missed anything.
