Hi, I just assembled my first PC this morning (the ROG Strix B-550 A). The microphone isn’t working properly. I know audio is fine and it worked on my laptop, but when I tried it with the Armory Crate drivers it didn’t change anything. My case has a Corsair 4000D and includes a headset/mic input on the front. I can hear everything clearly there, but the mic on the back is completely dead. I’m new to PCs and haven’t used laptops before, so I’m wondering if there’s a specific port I should use or if I need a different setup. Any tips or solutions would be great!

For optimal sound quality, consider using the one located on the back of your motherboard or a USB headset. The front panel audio works well now. Alternatively, invest in a USB audio interface if you plan to stream or handle more audio tasks. Regarding your problem, it’s likely related to the Apple headset; try re-seating the front panel audio header on your motherboard. Your motherboard features a 5-port audio interface, so you’ll need a converter—specifically a 3.5mm splitter—to separate the microphone and audio outputs into different cables before connecting them to the motherboard’s designated line out and mic ports. For better results, it’s advisable to purchase a new headset. This guide explains how to connect the auxiliary cable (E17120_ROG_STRIX_B550-A_GAMING_UM_v2_WEB.pdf) as described in your manual, pages 50 and 51.

Did you connect all the wires properly? There might have been a mix-up with the plus and minus signs on the microphone. It seems to have worked on the MB port, but it could be considered a faulty mic.
