Over the past few days my laptop has been showing a slowdown, especially with download speeds dropping to between 40 and 70 Mbps. Usually I expect around 400-450 Mbps, but this has changed. My Galaxy S9 works fine on the same network with identical servers, so it seems like the problem is specific to my current setup. My hardware details are listed here: HP Omen dc0850nd. My ISP is Ziggo, and I don’t use their default router—it’s a third-party one. I connect my Asus RT-AC87U directly via a Cat6 cable to their router, which has its DNS disabled. I’ve tried switching the router on and off, performing factory resets, updating Windows, and scanning for malware. Everything came back clean. I’m unsure what else to do except a full Windows reinstall, which I’d avoid because of sensitive data.

Thanks for your prompt reply. It looks like the fix worked, but the search bar on the bottom of your screen is now non-functional.

Restart the Windows Search service by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, then open Task Manager. Go to the Details tab. In the Name column, right-click SearchUI.exe and choose End task. When asked to end SearchUI.exe, pick End process.
