Problem with installing MSI X570 MPG on Fractal Define S.
I installed my Define S case and upgraded to a Ryzen 9 5950X with the MSI X570 MPG motherboard. The standoff screws were already present in the case, so I kept them as they had functioned well on my previous ASUS Z170-A board. The issue now is that some screws are positioned behind the X570 MPG board from MSI, causing interference even with the standoffs. The most bothersome is the bottom left screw on the picture—it can push against the case metal. To secure the bottom left standoff screw, it forces the bottom left PCB area to twist, making full installation difficult.
It seems unusual since manufacturers usually account for such design constraints. My concern is whether this slight twist over time could affect performance, even though the system works now. The only option I see is removing the motherboard and creating holes in my case to give space for the back screws of the X570 board, ensuring it sits evenly on the standoffs. Alternatively, I could skip the bottom left standoff screw and leave it undone to reduce tension, though I’m unsure if that’s safe.
it's brand new msi x570 mpg board, in fact this picture is not mine it's just another generic one of the same model so the screws are normal I guess. This is what it looks like on the other side, it's in the area of the chipset and its cooling fan. There are springs under the screws kind of like on a cpu cooler. I tried screwing them in further but they seemed pretty much fully seated in... so no way to make them extend less. It appears to be a rather popular X570 board so i wonder if other people are experiencing the same issue in their case too...
I wouldn't alter the motherboard. Raising the stand-off distance won't fix the rear I/O issues. You might want to adjust the case to remove the screws. If you skip the bottom corner stand-off, how does that affect the fit?
Omitting the bottom corner stand-off screw reduces flexibility. Leaving it out might increase the chance of a short circuit due to uneven spacing.
It might be risky to take out the bottom corner standoff screw, especially if shorts are a concern. The other screws are secure, but removing one could affect stability.
