Problem with idle temperature on 5950X device
There’s been a temperature concern with the 5950X processor. It runs hot under normal loads, especially when using the CH8DH graphics card. The system stays stable with regular 2400MHz DDR4 and 1080Ti, but the idle temps hover in the high 40s to mid-50s. With the RGB radiator and fans running max, it’s manageable unless you switch to power-saving mode. Using OverWatch at lower settings helps keep things cooler. Room temp is about 25°C. If you’re seeing higher temps, check cooling setup or consider a better case fan. Any others faced similar problems?
These appear typical to me. Keep in mind your system has a 16-core CPU running on a 280mm radiator.
I concur, these temperatures are typical for Zen 3. No concerns needed.
Confirmed. I'm running between 50°C and 52°C on a 5900X with the same cooler you use, but I've never exceeded 68°C during peak hours in May. Everything looks stable. 3080 effectively handles a lot of heat into the AIO radiator, allowing the CPU to cap at 84°C during multitasking and gaming.
Thank you for your thoughtful responses. I'm feeling much improved now.
Hardware Guy shared some thoughts about my setup. My system handles moderate loads well, staying cool even when idle—typically not exceeding 40°C with minimal CPU activity. Under load, temperatures remain stable around 1.44-1.45V and 20-25W power draw. The cooling setup includes a ROG Crosshair Hero VIII with triple 360 AIO fans on a Corsair 5000D Airflow unit featuring seven 120mm fans. I've refreshed the cooler paste several times using different techniques, but it still stays near 40°C at idle. Ambient temperature is around 16°C this morning. All recent BIOS updates, firmware, and AGESA are up to date.
