Problem with HP printer not printing.
Problem with HP printer not printing.
I recently purchased a black ink refill from a third-party seller because I wasn’t willing to pay HP’s $50 fee for what I suspected was a scam. Before this, I used another third-party refill, but I’m hoping it wasn’t the same situation. My printer is an HP LaserJet M102a (non-wireless) and it’s behaving strangely. I attempted to print files from my PC; Windows recognized the device, but the print queue sent the job without any action. I also used HP Smart, yet it didn’t detect the printer at all—Windows did, but not HP’s own app. This issue started a few weeks ago and has persisted even when switching to my laptop, which is working fine. I tried downloading the necessary drivers from HP’s official site, but the installer kept failing with errors and wouldn’t download. It seems like the driver might already be installed or incompatible, making the problem unresolved. The cable issue isn’t helping either, since the printer wouldn’t show up in Windows at all. I’m really confused and would appreciate any advice or assistance.
the charming journeys of printer software... since I anticipate some folks will jump onto the criticism train. this isn’t about HP alone, nor does it concern the third-party cartridge problems. (for the sake of clarity, stop purchasing those extra cartridges—you were aware of their high cost before getting the printer, if you’re seeking cheaper options, consider a different path.) remove any HP printer-related software, delete the device driver (i’m not sure where Windows hides it in Win11... maybe even deeper in a hidden folder), unplug the printer, and let Windows handle the update. then install the newest driver version HP offers (likely PCL-6 or similar), insert the printer, and proceed with the setup. this should get you back on track. at least HP still provides solid driver installation tools, while my brother’s experience has been a real challenge through Windows updates.
EDIT: P.S. I’d rather explain this clearly... the problem isn’t that your printer fails to print, it’s that the driver is broken and Windows can’t communicate with it properly.
Is Brother's ink really that much cheaper? (wow, that sounds odd) Yeah, in Malaysia HP's ink is about 14 times more expensive than third-party options. $70 for ink, and I bought the printer for around $100, so I definitely wouldn't have gone for the originals. Ugh, and I thought I'd avoided a ripoff by getting a laser printer. Brother printers seem pricey, but the ink is surprisingly budget-friendly, which makes me wonder if this model will eventually be worth upgrading to Brother. Alright, here goes—let's see what happens.
Updated: It functions properly, thank you so much for your assistance! @manikyath
