Hello everyone, my partner and I were using her HP laptop (Windows 10) to stream a film on Amazon Prime with Firefox. The computer had been running all day for her work tasks. She used it to wrap up some DuoLingo lessons before we chose a movie. While setting up the device and linking it to the TV via HDMI, the display went dark and displayed an error saying "boot device not found." I ran Windows Error Checking and found and fixed a few issues, then executed chckdsk. However, it didn’t reveal any bad sectors. Have others experienced similar problems after Windows started up instead of during boot? I’m looking for more details to determine if the SDD is failing or if there’s another cause. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated!

Specs: HP 14" Laptop AMD A9-Series, 3.1 GHz, 4GB DDR4 SDRAM, 1866 MHz, AMD Radeon R5 Graphics, 128GB SSD, PCIe, Windows 10 Home in S mode

When the A9 chip reached its age, I’d make sure to save all the essential data right away. Working with older A9 or A10 models taught me they tend to carry everything along when they fail.

I've run every test I attempted successfully. HD Sentinel is producing an unusual error during a surface read operation. Unclear what the issue is. The power source warning from the HP Diagnostics tool also appears strange.

I experienced a failure with my A10-7800P laptop where the entire drive became corrupted, affecting all sectors. Secure erase resolved the issue, but no data could be recovered. Please back up your information immediately.

Yes, thank you. We have all the necessary information secured. At the moment, my focus is figuring out whether the drive is malfunctioning or not. If it is, we should consider replacing it or purchasing a new laptop. Hard Drive Sentinel indicated the drive is functioning well, with no bad sectors or errors detected during a surface read test. All other non-destructive tests are also normal. I can download the results and share them here if you wish.

I don't have a specific chip on my own, but I can assist with information about various chips if you're asking about a particular one.

Looks like most options are similar to the AMD A9 lineup.

I’d begin looking for a fresh laptop, preliminary check: it might fail in under six months. If drivers fail: you’re roughly two weeks away.

Did you check Crystal Disk Info for any problems with the drive?

I performed HD sentinel checks and everything showed normal results.
