Hey everyone! I'm facing some GPU problems lately. When I play games or run stress tests, the RGB shuts off, but it's not the only thing going wrong. I keep freezing hard, needing to press the power button to turn it off. I've tried running MemTest86 first, thinking RAM was the culprit—since then the issue started. I cleaned everything, replaced thermal pads (Arctic TP-3 sizes 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm and 2.5mm), and even swapped the power supply from 600W to 850W. Still, the freezes persist.
I checked for damage after replacing parts, but found nothing. I also tried a different PCI-E slot on my motherboard, but nothing changed. Gaming has been the main issue now, not stress tests or OCCT checks. I haven't rolled back drivers or reinstalled Windows yet, though I'm open to those options if needed.
My specs are: ASRock B360M Pro4, I9-9900K CPU, Hyper H412R cooler, GIGABYTE RTX 2070, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB, WD Green SN350 SSD, ADATA SU630 HDD, and Windows 10 Home. The case has five fans, and the monitors are Zowie XL2540 (240Hz) and an HP2159 GPU driver.
I'm really stuck and a bit frustrated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hello. Have you replaced any components during the same Windows setup? If so, what changes? Have you used DDU before? Are you experiencing any blue screens? Does your computer often have trouble starting? Regarding CPU temperatures, is the cooler for a 9900k model unusually high? You mentioned trying to update the BIOS.
I upgraded from i7-8700 to i9-9900k using the same Windows setup. Regarding DDU, I attempted this yesterday but didn’t succeed; it still worked with version 5.31. No issues at all, regardless of driver updates. I don’t experience any bluescreens unless I run OCCT on the CPU, which I’ve disabled to prevent throttling and temperature spikes. I’m not concerned because it never exceeds 60°C during gaming—OCCT’s load is unrealistic and stays below that threshold. My PC boots normally, with a boot time of about 8.1 seconds, which is typical for my setup. The CPU cooler performs well, keeping temperatures around 60-65°C while gaming, and the P4.20 BIOS version I have is stable. I tried the optional PCI-E slot yesterday too, but the same problems persisted—RGB flickers. I also noticed two crashes on Tarkov yesterday, which wasn’t happening before. It might be related to my camera during Discord calls with my girlfriend; I’m not a coder, so I can’t confirm. Lastly, when using MSI Afterburner and adjusting the fan curve, RGB still drops immediately, suggesting an issue with the fans rather than just cooling.
