Problem with extremely high latency is quite puzzling.
I've been working on this problem for a few weeks now. In short, I used to play League of Legends with a 75ms ping, but recently it dropped to 114ms, which is really bad for ranking in diamond. I talked to RIOT and they said it was my ISP, then I contacted my ISP who blamed them too. Since you all seem so knowledgeable, if anyone can help, it must be you. Here are the TRACERT results for two LAN servers. Thanks for your assistance! This just happened unexpectedly while playing a LoL game—it froze, jumped from 75ms to 400ms, and then stuck at 114ms. P.S.: This seems to happen in LoL, but with Rainbow 6 Siege my ping is still 75ms.
I think your ISP support might not be very experienced. This issue usually comes from the server you're using. Where you're connected to depends on your location. For example, if you play Fortnite with a 1G connection and are in Europe, you should see a good ping. But if you switch servers to something like Brazil or another distant place, your ping will increase. Ping can also spike when multiple connections are active at the same time. To figure this out, run a speed test on speedtest.net or another site. Connect to a nearby server and make sure you're getting the speed you're paying for—ideally no more than 5ms for ping. If that's the case, the problem is likely elsewhere.
Yeah, actually everything else works just fine—speed tests, other games, etc. The issue only shows up in LoL. I've tried multiple devices and think the problem lies with my own network. It's not local; it's more like an international connection when reaching the Orlando server. But it only happens on my network, while my friends' connections are normal from the same ISP. They have 65ms at the same server, whereas I'm seeing 97ms. Is there a way to adjust the route or trace what path is being used? Since this was fine a few days ago and then changed suddenly, it's likely something in that specific segment increased my ping and caused it to drop. Thanks!
In this case the problem would be what server you connect to at RIOT. Not really much that can be done about that. However if you are on wireless connection a cable would be a positive impact on your ping. (But since you're playing games i guess you already use Cat5e or cat6 cable.) And therefore leaves you with very little to no options at all.
