Asus ROG Strix GL10DH, Windows 10 Pro 22H2
I’m experiencing issues with external hard drives. The W10 event viewer occasionally displayed event ID 154, leading to a hardware failure. This occurred with various drives at different times. After connecting them via a USB hub, the problem stopped for several days but reappeared on one drive, constantly reporting 154 every minute. The hard drive itself is fine; I’ve tested it extensively. My Asus app suggests a battery issue, and some online discussions mention a CMOS problem. I removed the CMOS battery briefly to reset the BIOS, but it didn’t resolve the issue. I can’t read or write data normally, only see these 154 events continuously. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Wayne

Have you experimented with another USB cable? If not, it might relate to the enclosure. Luckily, enclosures are affordable enough if you manage to retrieve the drive. The problem could stem from data on the drive itself, as the manufacturer may employ encryption on the circuit board inside the enclosure.
