Hello there,
I've been facing a problem with my pump-res combo for a while now. In August 2016, I started watercooling the system, but in October the pump stopped working suddenly. It was unusual because the day before it was running perfectly. I took it apart to check and noticed a strange "tick-tock" sound coming from the pump, like a valve opening and closing every few seconds. It seemed like the pump was trying to circulate coolant but couldn't.

Later, I replaced the pump with another one from EKWB, but they didn’t explain what was wrong and just gave me a new pump without solving the issue. Yesterday it stopped again, showing the same problem: that valve-like sound. I managed to fix it by repeatedly plugging and unplugging the 4-pin Molex connector for about half an hour. Right now, it's happening again, even though the CPU temperature is below 70 degrees.

What might have caused this? Have others experienced the same problem? If you tell me to empty the pump and refill it, I’ve already done that, and also tried tilting the case to let air bubbles out.
Thanks for your help!

Determine if the device is a DDC pump or a D5 pump and check the PWM curve configured in the BIOS.

EK Luc:
Are you asking about a DDC pump or a D5 pump? What PWM curve was configured in the BIOS for it? The unit is an EK-XRES 140 DDC 3.2 PWM Elite (including the pump), and I set the PWM curve as a standard on my Asus motherboard.

If the problem occurs, do you still notice the pump vibrating when you touch it?

I notice a vibration each time the "valve" makes its sound—like opening and closing. It seems like it's trying to push the coolant but isn't working properly, producing that repetitive noise. By the way, the noise is almost imperceptible unless the pump is powered separately, then it becomes clearly audible.

JayzTwoCents has just posted a video where his pump stopped working suddenly, and that specific sound is what’s been happening to his pump. I’m confused about why this happens with every pump replacement EKWB has sent me. If you’re curious about the sound, it matches exactly what’s shown in the video:
