Hello everyone. I'm attempting to keep it brief. My system would crash without any input and shut down completely after two seconds of freezing, then restart. When loading in the BIOS screen it can freeze again, requiring me to turn it off. Sometimes it won't even start at all after a crash. I've entered safe mode now but it keeps freezing without shutting down. I suspect hardware failure, though I don't know what's causing it. Also, while I was writing this, my motherboard emitted rapid beep codes during a safe mode freeze. I don't know how many there were—possibly around thirty. Could you help identify which component is failing?
Specs: I7-4790 3.6GHz, Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3 (MB), 16 GB RAM DDR3, GTX 1060, 6GB Corsair CX550, 1TB HDD.
I think we should begin by looking at the CPU first, especially since that sentence raises concerns about cooling.
Cooling fan setup. Arctic freezer 7 Pro running at 2 RPM. After a crash, I opened BIOS to check CPU temperatures—mostly around 40°C.
40 might be a bit too high during idle. When was the most recent time you refreshed the thermal paste and cleared out the dust? Still, I believe a hardlock in the BIOS could signal a failing motherboard.
I just removed a lot of dust from my PC. I didn’t replace the thermal paste because it was new. The lock on the BIOS screen appears when Windows is starting up. (The circle dots)
It might be a Windows issue, though a strong lock during BIOS could point to a hardware problem. Reapplying it is worth considering since nine years is quite long for this kind of fix.
