Yesterday I attempted to play Battlefield 2042 with my friend, but the problem occurred on his PC. He plays Genshin Impact, which has poor optimization for PC, so he tried downgrading his GPU driver beforehand. After that, 2042 didn’t launch properly—sometimes it entered a match but would freeze due to VRAM issues (see attached), or it would crash while the audio played. The graphics were set to 1080p Medium/Low and capped at 60fps. Eventually, both Steam, EA App, and Wallpaper Engine crashed simultaneously. I let him reboot his computer and install the latest GPU driver; the game ran smoother but freezing still happened. Recently we tried NFS Unbound—after loading it would quit immediately. I just enabled ReBAR in his BIOS now, but his internet connection is weak, so he hasn’t started the game yet. Meanwhile, NFS 2015 works without problems. Any suggestions for the issue? BF2042 still seems to have problems at this point. CPU: Intel Core i3-12100 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz System: MSI H610M

Which version is this? There are three iterations of that card with different VRAM specs. The precise model is needed. Unbound struggles with low-VRAM cards, often refusing to launch. For the BF 2042, monitor CPU and GPU usage via MSI Afterburner during games. It can handle a 12100 easily.

Hey there! Just wanted to check in about this. It’s an 8-gig 3050, and it seems like the CPU is maxed out on his PC. He can load into the game, but it still crashes when trying to create a character page. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to test that after uninstalling 2042.

He reached the 2042 limit while playing, though the issues appear to stem from the GPU rather than the CPU.

The temperatures are normal. The GPU is running at typical levels, and the issue seems to be related to software or system performance rather than overheating.

It’s typically 60-70°C during gameplay. He also mentions that many of the games he plays occasionally crash, such as Forza Horizon 4 and Genshin Impact.

That's unusual, considering the benchmarks. It seems limited hardware testing remains, and it feels like a disorganized window issue.

Hey there! Great update you’ve got there! I went through his motherboard’s BIOS and turned on ReBAR and XMP settings—his RAM is rated at 3200MT/s but it’s running at 2666MT/s for about three years now. Then I upgraded the BIOS, and it hasn’t been updated in two years either. Now he’s playing games smoothly! He didn’t build his own system; a random person picked the components for him back in 2022. With a limited budget, they chose a better power supply and a WD SSD while picking an affordable CPU/Motherboard—definitely impressive. Plus, he believed he was using a 3050Ti all along, but it looks like he might have been scammed on the GPU, haha!

Great news, everything seems to be running now! Likely a mix of the latest BIOS update plus enabling certain features should have made a big difference. Still, it's a budget build, so don't expect huge improvements. Disappointing that it was scammed on the GPU. 😞
