Yesterday while assembling a new PC, I encountered an issue. After connecting everything and powering on the CPU fan, it refused detection and displayed an error. Upon checking the glass side of the case, I noticed the fan twitched slightly (video1), confirming it was receiving power. However, the BIOS reported an error stating it wasn’t connected (image2). I attempted to adjust the fan speeds in BIOS but had no success. Updating the BIOS didn’t help either. I assumed the problem lay with the fan header and changed it from the 4-pin CPU_Fan to the 4-pin CPU_OPT next to it. After rebooting into BIOS, the fan worked correctly—though not at optimal speeds for cooling—and the BIOS still showed the error. I suspect there’s an issue with the header itself, but I’m unsure if using the CPU_OPT header is safe for the CPU. All components are new: Corsair 4000D AIRFLOW Mid-Tower case, Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus (WiFi), AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-core processor, PNY XLR8 Gaming DDR4 RAM 3200MHz 4x8GB, and Corsair RM750 power supply. I haven’t installed an OS yet, fearing overheating during installation. You recently tested the CPU fan on the CPU_Fan header, and it functioned properly. After replacing the fan and testing both headers, the issue reappeared. It seems there might be a problem with the fan itself, so I’m planning to return it for repair. I’ll follow up once I have a new fan and check if the problem is resolved.
