Hey there! I built my first PC recently, but setting up Ethernet was tricky—especially drilling through the wall to connect the router. I ended up using a WiFi adapter instead. After installing Windows, I tried connecting to both 2G and 5G networks. The 5G only showed one bar, while the 2G had no signal at all. Since the router is right under my room, it seems the signal might not be reaching it properly. I’m wondering if the WiFi adapter’s antennas are faulty or if there’s an issue with the adapter itself. It’s hard to know for sure, but this problem is making it tough to download drivers or install essentials on my PC. Any advice would be great! I think I have an Asus RT66CU router and an Asus PCI-E AC68 adapter.

The 2.4GHz frequency likely offers stronger connectivity compared to 5GHz because the router is located elsewhere. Have you been using Wi-Fi with another device in the same area before? Also, have you tried this adapter previously?

The floor is constructed from materials like concrete, brick, or denser substances. These choices affect performance and compatibility with wireless technology.

It’s wood. My five-year-old iPad works without issues. That’s what’s puzzling me. 5G offers stronger signals compared to 2.4. This is my first PC, laptop, etc. In my previous message I mentioned having a five-year-old iPad with no connection problems and an iPhone 6S behaving the same. The iPad connects easily to the 5G signal in my room too. I haven’t tried the adapter before and don’t know how else to test it unless I bring it to a friend’s house for evaluation tomorrow. It could be something simple like it came loose while moving things around inside. My RAM was pulled out of the socket during startup, so I’ll reinstall it and attempt that first tomorrow unless someone suggests another solution. I’m still within a few days before the return window closes.

I think the best option is using the adapter. Double-check that you have the right utilities and drivers, then test it on another machine as you suggested. That’s all I understand.
