Hey there, CPU enthusiasts! Here’s a revised version of your report:

I’m running an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D system with the following components: a Noctua c14s MOBO cooler, an AsRock B450 CPU cooler, Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz RAM (2x16GB), and an MSI RTX 4070 graphics card. The power supply is a Corsair 600w SFX with 80+ platinum certification. My storage setup includes a 2TB Crucial MX500 SSD and a Windows 11 OS.

I’ve downloaded "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora" and "Star Wars: Jedi Survivor." During normal gameplay, the system occasionally restarts without any warnings—no error messages, no pop-ups, and no blue screens. The screen turns black and the PC shuts down completely. I checked the Windows Event Viewer for any critical errors, but found none.

Both games are installed on my C: drive, which is powered by the Intel NVMe SSD. I’m gaming at 1440p resolution with Digital Foundry settings in Avatar, and High without ray tracing in Jedi Survivor. DLSS Quality Upscaling is enabled.

I’ve attempted various fixes: disabling undervolting for both CPU and GPU, updating drivers, and even running stress tests with Prime95 and Furmark. Still, the crashes persist. I’ve also tried setting a 90% power limit on the GPU, but that didn’t help.

Some background: My previous system (with an Intel 3600 and RTX 2070) had similar issues—random crashes and bluescreens. I updated my motherboard, SSD, and BIOS to support the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but the problem remains. I’ve disabled adaptive sync, disabling HDR and DLSS, and even removed unnecessary background apps.

I’m considering a clean Windows installation and a BIOS update to the latest version. If you have any insights or recommendations, I’d really appreciate it. This setup is expensive, and I’m feeling quite frustrated. Hopefully, someone can help me resolve this!

Happy holidays, everyone!

You’ve faced similar problems before using the same motherboard and power supply. I’d begin by swapping out the power supply. Choose a more robust one, preferably not from Corsair. Some users report issues with those supplies, as they often arrive refurbished at resellers with discounts but tend to fail quickly. The CPU temperature is already high—around 90°C—and it starts throttling there. It’s also worth noting that your CPU cooler helps, but the heat buildup remains a concern.

Same setup and power supply are working fine. The 90 degrees only appears under full load; gaming keeps it around 50-60°C. I thought a fresh PSU might be the problem, because even with both CPU and GPU at maximum during the tests, no crashes occurred.

I'm not sure if it's the power supply, but since it was part of the previous build that had problems too, I think that's likely. Before purchasing a new one, ask a friend to borrow it for testing to eliminate the possibility. If that doesn't work, the issue might be with the motherboard. Have you updated the BIOS?

I understand, I was just clarifying my perspective while acknowledging your logic. The Intel 660p SSD from the prior build is included. The motherboard, power supply, and boot SSD are all around four to five years old now. I mentioned this in the original post as well—I'm using BIOS version 5.20, which is the most recent non-beta release. Would you suggest upgrading to version 8.01 [Beta]?

No I don't recommend beta versions when it comes to bios. It's better to wait for a none beta version. Have you done a memtest yet?

I’m not sure about putting in the beta BIOS myself. Testing with memtest shows no issues so far at 30%.

Are the games on the same drive as your operating system? I ended up shutting down and checked my main storage. I’ll replace them later today and will update once it works. Note that SSD read/write speeds are limited, so you might want to verify disk health using a tool like DiskMark or similar.
