I own an Evga FTW3 3080 10gig card in my system. I’m experiencing problems where playing graphically demanding games like Cyberpunk or CS2 causes the screen to freeze and locks the PC. After switching to Bazzite, the issue persists. My MSI550 doesn’t show any warning lights. Games such as Factorio, Kenshi, and TF2 run smoothly with minimal interruptions. This problem began on Windows and seems to have worsened since I changed RAM sticks. The 3080 has throttled at high temperatures but rarely reaches critical levels. I’ve reviewed voltage charts and noticed random voltage drops. Reducing wattage didn’t help. If anyone has suggestions, it would be really helpful. 🩷

I'm not familiar with diagnosing GPUs, but this might connect to voltage as you suggested. You could experiment with undervolting and observe the effect. I don't know how to perform this on Linux for an AMD card—I think a tutorial might exist on YouTube or a community forum. Keep in mind that voltage and power consumption are different concepts. Be careful when adjusting the voltage on your card.

It might not be the main cause, but I can fix the cooling problem. Could you share the case details and fan specs? Also, how are the GPU fans performing when things get warm? Make sure the PSU is healthy and delivering stable voltages under load. If thermal throttling disappears and your other issues remain, it’s likely not related to temperature. This should apply across both Windows and Linux.

I’m going to experiment with the power tolerance settings. I’m really bad at reading words, so I often mix up wattage and voltage. You’re right about them being different. I’ll try it out. Thanks!

I've already looked into fan curves and adjusted the temperatures. I didn't realize it made a difference even with fans running at full speed and cooler temps. For my CPU, I use a Noctua D12, which keeps things nice and steady. Regarding my setup, I've used Corsair fans from an older model of the Corsair 2500D; I can't recall the exact name, but it's similar in design.

It turned out my 3080 was just quietly completing its task. Swapping it for a 5070 TI made everything work flawlessly.
