Problem with bad RAM and XMP settings, or issues with the motherboard's RAM slot?
Hi, during a bios session I adjusted the fan curve and saved changes. After exiting, the system automatically increased and then decreased fan speeds repeatedly. I restored the bios, enabled XMP for RAM to match the correct speed, and it worked properly. After another reset, I left the settings unchanged, with XMP disabled, and everything booted normally—no problems. However, when I re-enabled XMP, one of the RAM sticks would restart and the fans would rev up and down again. When I swapped in a different stick, the issue disappeared. I removed two RAM sticks (one kit) and managed to boot after enabling XMP, but the fan behavior remained inconsistent. I added a second kit about a week ago, and everything matched my first kit in terms of make, version, timing, and speed. According to MSI’s site, I’m using version 7C37vH7. On version 7C37vH9 there was an improvement in memory compatibility. My motherboard is an MSI X570-A Pro with BIOS version H.70, and the CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with 32GB DDR4 RAM (4x 8GB) from Corsair Vengeance LPX at 3000MHz. I have two graphics cards: an MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Ventus OC. It seems the problem might be related to the RAM or the BIOS settings rather than a bad stick or socket.
Inspect each stick separately; one could be stuck or two from the second set. The addition of the second kit about a week ago matches the make, version, and timing of your original kit. Confirm whether XMP was enabled before switching kits. If not, stability with 2x2x8 might be an issue and manual adjustments may be necessary.
Thanks for the update. I didn’t return and re-enable it after adding the second kit. Windows showed it was running at 3000Mhz in Task Manager, and AIDA64 suggests the older kit might be the culprit. I’ll double-check that one.

I wanted to share an update. I’ve checked all four sticks (two kits) in each socket, but only the second one (the new) works with XMP. I’ll reach out to Corsair to get their feedback. The kit that isn’t functioning is the one I purchased in September 2019. Thanks again for your responses.
