I have some files I'm attempting to back up. The permissions were set so everyone has full control. When trying to copy a file, I receive the message "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file." After clicking "continue," I get "File Access Denied" and the error "You require permission from ... to make changes to this file." Can you help figure out how to remove whatever is blocking the copy?

this file and the other files i'm having trouble with were recorded in Pro Tools on a mac. they were copied to a usb drive, moved to my pc, then copied to an external hard drive for backup. but i'm still unable to copy them from the external hard drive to another external hard drive.

They are still present on the PC, not limited to external devices.

Claim responsibility for the document.
Adjacent to Owner – tap modify.
Also note – the file features a lock symbol, suggesting it might be secured or encrypted.

It doesn't matter who owns the file. I attempted various ownership settings including user, Administrator, and Everyone. After closing properties and reopening, the owner was confirmed changed. However, when trying to copy the file, everything remains consistent except for an updated error message stating "You require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file." I also can't play the WAV file.

i think it's an issue with the encryption and the error messages are wrong. that drive with that user died and was replaced, so i don't know if there is any way that i can decrypt.

None of these files have functioned on a Windows system following a Mac copy.

yes, they did work on my windows system.
I think what happened is that the secure encryption was somehow accidentally added to the files on my windows user account. i was still able to access the files since I was doing it all from the same pc/user account that had access to the encryption. a while ago, my hard drive died and i replaced it and reinstalled windows. from that point on, the file would no longer copy.
this is the first time that i'm really looking into it. i had thought that it was a permissions issue because of the deceiving error message. I'm looking it up, and unfortunately it seems like there is no way to decrypt the encrypted files. I'm hoping that I have a backup from before they were encrypted. 🤞
