Problem with B450 fan header connection
I recently posted about this problem a few months back, but I’m planning to create another thread since it’s happening again. Here’s the link: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-MORTAR-MAX. This is the motherboard I purchased, which has been in use for roughly ten months. It was brand new when I bought it. I encountered issues with the sys_fan3 header, which is positioned next to headers for USB, power/reset, and RGB controls. The problem is that any fan connected won’t spin unless it reaches at least 50%. My other case fans on different headers (sys_fan2 and sys_fan1) function even at 20%. I’ve tried various cables and rearranged the fans, but nothing resolves the issue. Recently, after using a fan splitter with Noctua’s solution, only one fan was spinning at a time. It’s a minor annoyance because I can’t control the fan for sys_fan3 outside the BIOS, and I won’t use that splitter again.
I'll look into it... or grab a used one. As long as it won't fail another header. Yes, BIOS lets you pick fan settings by headers. It's pretty awkward to adjust fans from there (mouse movement drops about 20% since drivers aren't active). I configured this sys_fan3 to always run at least half speed so Windows can detect it.
