I tried reapplying thermal paste on my laptop, but the metal clip holding the battery cable detached when connecting it. A spark occurred near the ICs next to the battery, and after plugging it in, nothing happened. The power button didn’t activate. There seems to be a problem with the circuitry or connections. Fixing it might require replacing the motherboard, which could cost a lot more than just a new laptop.

I’d think a spark suggests a short circuit occurred, and unless you own the right tools to fix the faulty part, this could mean your laptop is beyond repair. Have you attempted to reinstall the metal clip to check if the problem is just a loose connection? Also, it might interest me to understand why you chose to repaste—laptops can often last many years without needing that step.

I tried reinstalling the cable with the clip but no luck. I wanted to repaste it cause temps were reaching 97 98 on the cpu, but I realized when I opened it up that it had liquid metal on the cpu, but I still repasted it anyway for some stupid reason, idk why I did that tbh, and the arctic mx2 that I put on is definitely gonna perform worse than liquid metal, so I guess it's a major fuck up. Anyway, I opened it up in the first place because I wanted to clean the cpu fan because it started making a buzzing noise. And the cherry on top, my 1050Ti in my PC died along with an 8GB memory stick in the SAME DAY, I know it's irrelevant but I'm sharing for my own sanity. But thanks for replying.
