Problem with ASUS Z270G motherboard failing to detect GPU via PCI-E x1 riser board.
Hello, I own a PC equipped with an ASUS Z270G motherboard, an i7-7700 processor, and two GPUs—a GTX 1070 Ti and another GTX 1070. The problem is that using both GPUs in the PCI-E x16 slots doesn’t provide enough cooling, causing the top card to overheat due to insufficient airflow. I’ve tried using PCI-e riser cards (the X1 type often used for mining) to run multiple GPUs outside my case. I’m running the v009s version (see attached photo). Although my motherboard supports two PCI-E x16 and two X1 slots, I can’t get BIOS, Windows, or Linux to detect any card connected via a riser—direct connection works, but not the setup I need. I’ve experimented with various configurations and settings, including changing BIOS generation settings (Gen1 through Auto) and updating drivers on both Windows 10 and Linux, but nothing resolves the issue. I suspect a potential BIOS configuration problem rather than hardware defects, as I tested multiple reliable riser boards and still faced recognition issues. I’m seeking guidance on adjusting BIOS settings or troubleshooting steps to enable proper GPU recognition on risers. Thank you for your help—I’d appreciate any advice.
All images are included in the spoiler. There are many of them, so scrolling can take time. The risers you mentioned feature two 6-pin PCIe power connectors; only one was visible. Could this be the issue? Also, it would be better to have a riser in the X16 slot and another on a separate riser.
