I link PC to router via LAN using a 500MB broadband model; the LAN port indicator frequently turns red (occasionally green) and the connection drops from 500Mb to 100Mb during speed tests. Switching the same cable to another PC works without issues. After reinstalling Windows and drives, the problem persists. What might be causing this?

Consider using a different Ethernet cable. The issue here involves auto-negotiation between your router/switch and your PC. It might stem from a faulty cable wiring or a malfunctioning port on either device, so check both possibilities.

The problem was with Windows updates. Thank you for Windows. The fix came from the Realtek driver available on the motherboard site that was just updated.
