Hey everyone, my Alienware M15 R7 (2022) keeps throttling the CPU even when I'm not using it much. It's heating up a lot—86 degrees—and I'm only zipping files, opening Excel, or downloading games. The trackpad is giving out and it feels like the throttling is really bad. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on?

Check the newest BIOS here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/...op/drivers. The current version is 1.19.1 and there are additional firmware updates available.

I haven’t upgraded the BIOS, yet the Alienware control panel keeps failing. It doesn’t function properly after uninstalling, and reinstalling isn’t possible. Could a BIOS update resolve this issue?

I believe the latest software release won't impact the application.

It’s not working properly across several areas. I’m uncertain about the best approach, so I’ll begin with updating the BIOS and proceed step by step. I’ll update one part at a time and let you know what happens. Appreciate your understanding.

You can review several aspects; use Hard Disk Sentinel to assess your SSD condition and check Windows status via commands executed with administrator privileges or PowerShell or Windows Terminal: chkdsk c: /scan DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth SFC /scannow

Did you review the utilization in Task Manager? That would be my initial move to identify which process consumes most CPU, particularly because file compression—like downloading via Steam—can strain both drives and CPU during decompression. There’s no point in jumping straight to hardware or firmware problems if it’s just a background task or consuming all resources. If nothing unusual is running (such as Windows updates) or no activity is being reported, I’d proceed with updating the firmware or BIOS.
