Yesterday I purchased my PC and it was configured by a dealer using a cracked OS version, so I opted for a clean installation. While setting it up, I didn’t modify any hardware or disconnect any cables. I added GPU drivers but haven’t achieved more than 60 FPS. Prior to the reinstall, I was seeing 240 fps on UFO and on shadertoy.
The only problem I encountered was an MSI driver installation warning. I installed drivers from it, but after installing 60%, it became stuck. I’m unsure whether this issue requires a special step or if the stuck driver is the root cause. Please let me know if you need to reopen the MSI installation wizard and what actions are necessary to reach 240 FPS.
Overdrive mode is set to Smart OD. AMD FreeSync Premium is enabled, but the status bar displays it as off. The refresh rate in the status bar is 60Hz. The monitor is connected via display port, and before the reinstall I was getting 240 fps.
I wouldn't rely on third-party apps for driver installation (or updates). Use DDU to delete your GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then reinstall manually with the newest driver from Nvidia's support site via an elevated command.
Are you installing Windows 10 or 11? What is the BIOS version of your motherboard?
I just installed steam and tried several games. In one game I achieved 240 fps, and the monitor info panel indicates free sync with a refresh rate of 240hz. Now the main issue is that I can't perform the UFO test like before. After reinstalling the OS and browser being locked at 60fps, I need to fix this because I often require testing at high refresh rates.
