Problem with a modern PC?
Recently, I was operating a contemporary computer—likely from around 2025—and encountered an issue. I pressed the power button for roughly five seconds, anticipating it would turn off so I could restart. Surprisingly, that no longer appears to be the standard action. It required nearly twenty seconds of pressing before the machine finally shut down. I’m not comfortable with this shift. I favor the traditional, more consistent behavior, and I’m curious about what caused the change, why it happened, and whether these adjustments can be made individually for each computer.
Modern motherboards feature colored LEDs or alphanumeric displays that indicate POST status, along with headers for connecting a small speaker or buzzer, typically located near the front connector header.
Most common type is available on eBay listings, and it’s worth noting that shutdown issues usually require shutting down the PSU after 4-5 seconds, though some BIOS settings may allow adjusting the shutdown time. However, BIOS or OS often fail to respond in time, making it necessary to disconnect the power supply as the only solution.
PS. Always refer to the manuals for detailed guidance.
I should have mentioned that this is an Asus
laptop
that does not shutdown after holding the down the power for 5 seconds. Thanks
