Facing some issues with the CPU upgrade, I apologize for the lengthy explanation. My old processor was a 1600X running on an MSI X370 gaming pro carbon. I found a BIOS update (7A32v1P2) that supports the AGESA code and confirmed it in Windows. After installing the new BIOS, I removed the 1600X and installed the 5600X. I cleared the CMOS jumper and re-applied thermal paste to the cooler (H100i v2). Once everything was set, I powered on but didn’t boot. The debug LED flashed CPU, off, then CPU, off before VGA appeared and stayed on. I tried turning it off and back on multiple times, but the same sequence occurred.

Feeling frustrated, I undid all changes and reinstalled the 1600X to verify functionality. It worked fine. I saw some advice suggesting removing the CMOS battery for a reset or checking RAM connections. I decided to try once more: removed the 5600X, installed the 1600X again, and waited. Eventually, I put the battery back in and tried booting. The process was tense, but it worked this time.

Looking at forums, some recommended removing the CMOS battery and letting it sit for a while before reinserting it to ensure a fresh reset. Others suggested reseating the RAM or testing a different RAM stick. I also considered updating my motherboard BIOS on an MSI B450 system, but I didn’t want to risk that.

Now I’m stuck—what should I do next?

The duration you waited before the sequence began is similar to the time you experienced when installing the new CPU in the b350 mobo—around five minutes before it finally booted up. After that, it didn’t happen again.

I hope that's all. I was expecting about three minutes, so I think I'll retry and let the CMOS battery sit for a while longer.

Consider re-flashing the BIOS after removing the CMOS battery for some time. Updating BIOS occasionally helps prevent corruption, especially if you haven't changed it recently and a major update causes issues. Refresh it if you can.

I didn't say I replaced it after checking the 1600x settings to confirm everything was up-to-date. I was using a 2019 revision before the latest agesa update, but now I'm trying to revert everything. The CMOS battery has been running for about 15 minutes, so I'll power it on and let it rest while I grab some food.

It's been more than ten minutes of testing and still receiving the same CPU sequence without any changes. The VGA remains inactive, and no display activity appears. I've used another cable with a different monitor in another port, but it also didn't work—only fans and lights are active.

Someone suggested placing the GPU in the second PCI slot, which helped me with Windows. I experimented with various PCIe options in the BIOS, but nothing fixed the first slot. I still encounter oddities like fullscreen issues and the main monitor not showing until after booting to Windows, though the HDMI secondary display works if the other one is unplugged. Overall it seems to function fine.

Updated AMD chipset drivers, installed the newest BIOS, selected the CSM option in the BIOS settings. Avoided UEFI setup. This method succeeded for me when I couldn’t boot to Windows using the new 5600 on an MSI X370 Pro Carbon gaming model.
