Problem with 4K monitor lagging performance
Problem with 4K monitor lagging performance
Let me share my setup history first: Earlier setup: MB paired with EVGA Z170 Classified K CPU, Intel Core i7-6700K, SSD, Samsung 970 EVO 250 GB GPU, GeForce GTX 1070, 32GB DDR4 SDRAM at 3400 PS, 750W 80 PLUS. Current setup: MB with EVGA Z490 FTW CPU, Intel Core i9-10900K, SSD, same GPU, 16GB DDR4 SDRAM at 4400 PS, plus EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G+ 80 Plus and a gold version. I recently upgraded to three 4K monitors instead of one ultrawide. Initially everything functioned well until gaming and browsing caused issues—browsing while watching videos, playing games, and using YouTube all led to YouTube buffering and quality drops from 1080 to 360. The SSD remained consistent across both setups. What might be behind this problem? Thanks, Jan
It seems your system struggles under heavy load, especially with modern games that demand many cores and threads. Your current setup should handle single-threaded tasks well, but gaming and multitasking are where it falters. An upgrade would be necessary if you want to keep using a 6-core, 8-thread processor alongside your 4-core machine. The best path is to switch to Ryzen chips—avoid Intel unless you have funds. A Ryzen 7 or 9 would be ideal, though a 5th gen 5600X could work if you’re okay with limited performance. If background tasks are the bottleneck, consider removing unnecessary software like antivirus programs or bloatware. Your current i9 10900k stays under 60% usage even at high settings, giving you plenty of room for browsing and other activities.
