Hey! I was trying to upgrade my brother's old PC and have been having trouble with the Windows installation on the new SSD. After a few hours of troubleshooting, I ran out of ideas and had no other options. I bought a Kingston A400 as a replacement drive, hoping to simply copy his old HDD over, but there was a problem—my new drive didn’t have enough space compared to the old one. I searched extensively without finding a solution, tried adjusting partitions, but nothing worked. Now I’m considering a full clean install.

My next issue is that Windows won’t install properly. It either blocks the drive outright or, when I switch the format to MBR, it starts the installation but then fails to boot from the new drive. I’m feeling really frustrated and a bit overwhelmed. I know the drive should work since copying the old Windows install worked fine before. I’ve checked several DiskPart guides online, including these links: https://windowsreport.com/cant-install-windows-10-ssd/ and https://www.diskpart.com/articles/window...4348i.html. Could you help me out?

Well, the situation is straightforward. Your setup isn’t aligned with the required standards. UEFI only works with GPT-formatted drives, while BIOS needs MBR. If CSM is active or the BIOS option is turned off/legacy, it mimics an older BIOS environment. Since I don’t have details about your specific hardware, I can’t offer further guidance. Make sure your UEFI settings are correct, check the motherboard manual, and in Windows Setup remove all partitions through the interface. Let Windows handle the rest. A properly configured UEFI system is essential. CSM should be off unless your hardware supports it; otherwise disable it. Enable Secure Boot, XMP/DOCP if available, Fast Boot, Global C-state (C3/C6), and TPM/fTPM.
