Working on a fresh prebuilt HP desktop TP01-2234 with Windows 11 24H2. There is a specific Windows update that fails to install. It is the 2025-03 cumulative update KB5053598. So far, this is the only one that doesn’t install. It downloads it, then attempts installation. It pauses for a few seconds at 55% before restarting to 100%, but it prompts retry. After failure, it displays an error stating "install error 0x800f0983." The Windows update icon in the taskbar turns red due to this issue.

I tried running the automated Windows update diagnostic, which reported a problem and attempted to fix it. I updated again, but the same issue persists. It asked if that resolved the matter, but the answer was no. It then prompted me to run the Windows update error check diagnostic, which indicated it couldn’t resolve the update errors. This led me to request data collection via the feedback hub.

I attempted a Windows repair using sfc /scannow, which found corrupt files and repaired them successfully. However, this didn’t help.

A family member with a mini PC running Windows 11 is experiencing similar updates. I’m hoping that understanding this could help me assist them.

I performed the test and the operation finished without issues. The updated version also returned the same outcome. It would be best to share the log if you want further details.

it’s a recognized problem, just wait a week and attempt an update again. A fix could be available soon. Resetting the update in Windows Safe Mode might help.
