I have a testing setup where I perform overclocking experiments. Recently, I installed an R3 1200 on a B350 motherboard. When attempting to boot using MSI 1660 Ti in the top slot, I received no video output. I checked all possible configurations and still faced issues. - HD 6950 connected directly to DVI-D provided video - 8800 GT also worked with DVI-D - RX 480 direct to DVI-D gave signal - RTX 3070 TI via DVI-D connected to mini-display port and then DisplayPort adapter worked - GTX 1660 TI through the same path produced no output - GTX 1660 TI using HDMI to another monitor also failed - GTX 1080 MINI did not connect properly - GTX 1660 TI with a different adapter train had no signal - GTX 1080 MINI with adapter train also failed - My friend with an I7 8700K Z390 and RTX 3080 has similar problems. Everyone, you know how to troubleshoot? All updates to BIOS and drivers were applied without success on the other two systems.

I've checked all options, including adjusting BIOS and reinstalling drivers. Changing Pci-E to Gen 3 didn't help. The UEFI boot settings also didn't make a difference. I can't just use it in a second slot since it only supports 4x bandwidth there.

I'm curious if the adapter isn't compatible with the connection type. Can you link directly to DVI, DP, or HDMI? Would the behavior stay consistent when using the GPU in the second port? Bandwidth issues are expected, but a physical X16 slot should resolve them.

The adapter train functions in the top position with the 3070 ti and RX 480. It doesn't work with the 1660 ti or the 1080 mini rx 480, which still supports DVI-D. This monitor only has DVI-D output (Apple HD Cinema 30 inch) and it does boot fine in the second slot. For an overclocking rig aiming for top benchmark scores, bandwidth restrictions aren't something I'm comfortable with.

Cards respond in various ways. I can connect an HDMI to VGA adapter with my GTX 780, but not with the 1070. Do you have another monitor that supports HDMI or DP input? When someone says "it boots just fine," do they mean a display is working?

I tried connecting HDMI to another monitor, but it didn’t produce any display output. Yes, I meant it actually shows something.
