Problem strange after upgrading from GTX 1650 to RX 6700 XT
Hello, I faced an odd issue after swapping my GTX 1650 for an RX 6700xt. After removing the new card and reinstalling drivers, games still showed minor stutters. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers again, which resolved the issue temporarily. Some titles still had problems, so I removed and reinserted the graphics card. Once I powered it back on, everything worked fine—except when I swapped RAM sticks. Then I reset the BIOS before starting the replacement process. The update was done beforehand. My specs are: CPU MOBO B450 Aorus Elite, 3600MHz RAM, 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB, 3200mHZ PSU, Power Supply 650W. The RX 6700xt came from Sapphire.
Are you managing an EXPO account? I'm facing a comparable problem with a 6900xt and 2700x. In my setup the GPU tends to hard lock the system after some time, but only on Windows, not Linux. (That frustrating OS) I’m fine on another machine using the same card, so I suggest testing it elsewhere. If it works there, you can at least eliminate the card as a cause—memory could also be involved if that system uses the same RAM. If you have an older CPU lying around, consider booting from it too to check if your CPU is the issue. The 2700x has a weak memory controller and only supports 2133MHz, which isn’t necessarily the problem, but DIY builds can have quirks with certain hardware. You might also try rearranging PCIe slots and adjusting lanes/speeds in BIOS to see if the motherboard is the culprit.
I don’t have an Expo profile set up and selling spare parts means I can’t verify the GPU performance on another system. I’ll probably change the slots first, that’s the final option. Once that’s done, I think it’s best to hand it over to a repair shop. My knowledge is at its limit, and I’m really exhausted. I’ve been working on fixing it nonstop for the last 18 hours with only 3.5 hours of sleep.
It seems you're experiencing problems during GPU reinstallation. The need to reinsert might stem from compatibility issues or residual settings. Would you like guidance on resolving this?
I managed to fix the issue by adjusting the voltages and timing on my RAM manually.
