I had a sound problem with one of my main machines while working and playing games. After installing a USB card that lets me connect multiple USB ports, the setup improved performance. The machine features two GPUs: an Nvidia Super 2070 (EVGA) and an AMD RX 480 (XFX 8GB). Initially, the virtualized image worked perfectly. However, the AMD RX 480 occasionally dropped audio. The machine runs two main images—one for gaming (connected to the 2070) and another for upscaling content from 480p to 1080. The 2070 performed flawlessly for gaming, while the RX 480 struggled with audio quality. This application uses CUDA for upscaling, making the 2070 the fastest GPU in my setup. My VR rig, using a Gigabyte 1080 Extreme with water cooling, consistently ranks high in benchmarks. It outperformed the 2070 in 3Dmark tests, achieving a top 52 score. The 1080 card was primarily used for browsing, video, and light gaming. The sound issue persisted for several hours, usually between 4 to 6 hours, regardless of usage. This problem started when I installed the card, and despite extensive attempts, no solution worked. I suspected the issue was related to the video card, as the 2070 never had similar problems. Even when assigned to the RX 480 image, it still performed poorly. Eventually, MSI released a beta BIOS that resolved the audio problems for the AMD RX 480. Now, I believe my RX 480 is quite similar to the RX 570, and the BIOS update should have fixed the issue. I’m considering replacing it only if a better graphics card is released later this year. For now, I think the current specs are solid enough for my needs.
