Problem occurs repeatedly after BIOS upgrade.
I'm dealing with a tricky situation after yesterday's update. Now I can only boot into safe mode, otherwise I get stuck in a BSOD loop. I switched back to the previous BIOS but the issue persists. I've tried removing several programs, turning off startup items, and stopping unnecessary services. I thought a fresh install would fix it, but even then the system boots with a blue screen right away. The latest Windows 11 version is installed, but it shows up as a blank screen when loading. OS details: Windows 11 x64, ASUS ROG STRIX B660-I, gaming Wi-Fi BIOS v3601 (default settings). Hardware: Intel Core i9-13900K, Corsair Vengeance 64GB RAM, 288-pin DDR5 5200, GC Intel Arc A770 16GB, RM650 650W PSU. I've attached a BSOD dump for reference.
I've given up on saving the OS and just want to reinstall Windows from scratch. I've tested the latest BIOS, my old BIOS, and two older versions, but nothing worked. The Windows 11 installation media shows blue screens right after loading. Is there something I'm doing incorrectly? I don't recall any special steps for previous builds.
If you can boot into Safe Mode on Windows, there might still be a chance to restore the BIOS settings. Some UEFI features in Windows 11 require certain configurations, and after updating or downgrading the BIOS, some options could be turned off by default. Ensure Secure Boot is activated and TPM 2.0 is enabled. Disable CSM support if necessary.
In four cases it failed due to registry problems. It crashes when checking "CmpCheckKey" that confirms each key in the newly loaded hive, which appears in three registry error instances. The final crash happened after detecting issues during cleanup. This seems linked to a faulty BIOS update I don’t understand. Without more details, I’d assume a corrupted Windows installation. Would you have another drive to try reinstalling? It’s best to fully erase the current one before proceeding.
Thanks to solid NAS routines, there’s nothing significant on any drives. I also looked into the BIOS settings for Windows 11, and everything seems fine. I replaced the NVMe drive with one from another system, but it didn’t immediately cause a BSOD during installation. This machine had been running smoothly for over a year before this issue, so why did a BIOS update ruin everything? I’m unsure how the power-up/shutdown process worked before.
