CPU-Ryzen 9 3900x paired with GPU-RTX 3080 (ASUS TUF 12GB) RAM 2X8GB 3200 MOTHERBOARD - ASUS STRIX ROG B550-E MONITOR - ASUS TUF 34 ULTRAWIDE 165HZ I’m facing issues with achieving consistent FPS in games such as Rust or Minecraft. While others with a 3080 reach around 170+ frames, mine only hit 70 or less. I’m uncertain if the bottleneck lies in my motherboard chipset or if there’s a significant CPU-GPU mismatch. Temperatures stay under 55°C, and my CPU usage peaks at about 20-25%, with GPU utilization reaching 40-45%. I’m considering an upgrade to a Ryzen 9 5900x but unsure whether to switch to AM5 or opt for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. My budget is roughly £300/$390, not counting any parts I might need to replace.

It appears the reduced frame rate comes from your GPU operating below the desired efficiency. Aim for over 98% utilization for best results. Have you checked that your GPU drivers are current?

Obtain the 5700X3D model. It will address your concerns.

This applies to Rust and Minecraft specifically; it does not occur universally across all games.

started with the graphics card, but performance is dropping fast—minecraft runs around 20 to 70 frames per second, and even CS:GO drops to about 180 FPS on stretch.

We can determine the limiting factor by using GPU-Z: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/. When you open it, navigate to the "Sensors" section at the top. Scroll down until you locate "PerfCap Reason." This will reveal what is currently restricting your GPU's performance. Make sure to verify this during a game session with performance problems, as it provides clues about the bottleneck.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out whether the VOP.vRel and Power settings are affecting my CPU performance. If it is, should I consider getting a Ryzen 9 5900X?
