Problem encountered starting Windows installation.
Your Windows partition is damaged. The chkdsk tool can't fix it, and the filesystem won't mount in Linux. I'm not sure if data recovery is possible. The issue started after a crash during setup, and now the drive shows errors. You might need professional help or a data recovery service.
You can create a recovery USB using a USB drive and another PC. Boot from it and run DiskPart or Command Prompt to execute "bootrec /fixmbr" and "bootrec /fixboot". This may fix a corrupted Master Boot Record or restore the Windows partition if it was overwritten. If these steps fail, the partition might be completely lost, resulting in data loss but allowing you to reinstall Windows later with help from software.
I have no prior experience with this type of software, so I can't give a strong recommendation. However, AOMEI has partition tools and was referenced in one of the results. I've used AOMEI when installing Windows 980 Pro and moving my partitions, so it might be worth checking it out. The article you found is available here.
I received the information! I applied TestDisk in Ubuntu, rewrote the MFT, and now all folders are restored. I'm currently transferring them to an external hard drive.
Data appears lost permanently. Cannot rely on AOMEI since I lack a Windows version.
Successfully retrieved the information using MiniTool Partition Wizard and an ISO from GBATemp. It seems the name was forgotten but it’s now functioning properly. I’m currently saving backups to an external drive to prepare for a fresh Windows installation.
What software is this? Curious in case I need to do something like this in the future or have someone in need of help.
