I need some help on how to get My HDZ955 Phenom II x4 3.2 GHz processor to work in my older windows 7. Machine. It has Phoenix Revision 5.58 bios 3/16/2010 on it. Also M2N68 - LE Mother board. I called Asus because this is an older Asus mother board and they said my HDZ965 isn't supported on that board but the HDZ955 is. So when my HDZ955 arrived I installed it and still got the CPU not supported message. It currently has the Sempron 140 in it. Any help would be much appreciated. The mother board data sheet says it should support this CPU. I am just not sure if choosing to try and install the bios from the M2N68 would be a good idea because it is not a M2N68-LE. And also don't know if it will make any difference? Here is the motherboard spec sheet. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01701270 Thanks.

I’m having trouble locating that mobo. I do have M2N68-LA, but not this one. Mixing BIOS updates between different mobos isn’t recommended.

Yes, LA. Support for this model has ended and Asus offers the LA version for all M2N68 units. What are your thoughts on which choice might be better? Are there any trusted aftermarket BIOS options you could consider?

It's really tough to get what you need, buddy. Most aftermarket BIOSes don't exist, except for certain laptops that have things like a WiFi whitelist—simple enough. Making BIOS work with unsupported CPUs inside the BIOS is even more complicated.

I suggest checking other reputable brands instead of just Asus. Their parent companies often support various tech services, including BIOS updates.

The man from Asus felt unsure about your needs because he hadn’t been born yet when that motherboard/CPU became available. Wouldn’t it be simpler and much more secure to pick a newer model instead of an older one?

I've considered this. It's important for the widows 7 to be able to work with my recording setup. The program I had on that computer was expensive when I got it, and most of my equipment from then isn't really compatible with modern systems. How likely do you think it is that Windows would lock up if I set up a new system?

Windows 7 works with processors from the Skylake line, meaning you can purchase an older Skylake machine and enjoy both updated features and better speed without spending a lot of money.
