Problem: Can't open Google Sites because it shows an error message after being on screen for just a few moments.
Hello, I am having a weird problem. About a week ago I started having trouble getting to Google search sites like www.google.com, www.google.es, and www.google.co.uk. The page shows up for just a few seconds before I see a "This site is having a problem" message (error code=STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR). One week on and this keeps happening. It affects all the Google sites, not just search. For example, when I open Gmail directly, it shows my mailbox for about five seconds then pops up an error that says it isn't responding, then the screen goes black and shows that same "This site is having a problem" message. The same thing happens with Google Drive and any other Google site. It happens no matter which browser I use - Edge, Chrome, Firefox, CCleaner. I don't have trouble at all when I go to non-Google sites. I installed a VMware virtual pc on my machine. I tried going to Google from inside the virtual pc using a browser and there were no problems so that rules out issues with my router or ISP. I found a way to access the Google search page though. It seems like if I "pre-load" the URL with a search parameter it works; for example, https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=test In this case, the search results page opens and stays open so I can work on them. Unfortunately, I cannot use that trick to access Gmail, Google Drive, Classroom or other things like that. I saw people suggest setting my DNS Server in my network adapter to point to either Google servers or OpenDNS servers. Tried that but it didn't fix the problem. I ran a virus scan and no issues were found. Any ideas? Thanks Adrian
Do you like to run anything with an extension? What about your antivirus or malware protection software?
Thanks for getting back with me. Soon after my last post, my computer completely shut down in a bad way and I had to reinstall Windows on a new hard drive. Now all websites work fine. The old drive isn't actually broken - I was able to open all my files and CrystalDiskInfo didn't find any problems, so I don't know what caused the Google issue or why it crashed, but I think they are connected somehow.
