I’m dealing with an unusual problem with my Atrix Guild Series keyboard. I’ve been using this board since November, and while I’m not certain when the issue began, it’s been bothering me for about two months now. I don’t think it started right after installing my new PC in February, though I wouldn’t rule it out entirely.

The left SHIFT key tends to behave oddly sometimes. Most of the time it functions properly, but occasionally it fails to capitalize letters during typing. At first, I suspected I might be releasing the key too quickly because I’m a fast typist, but that’s not the case. I was pressing it while trying to post a spoiler tag on Discord and instead of typing '||" it printed "\\", indicating it wasn’t registered at all.

This issue isn’t limited to Discord—it also occurs in Chrome, Reddit, and Word, where letters sometimes don’t capitalize when using the SHIFT key. However, during gameplay with titles like Destiny 2 or Monster Hunter, I haven’t experienced this problem as severely, and it hasn’t been as frequent. Usually, just releasing the key back and pressing again resolves it, though sometimes it takes multiple attempts (sometimes up to five) before it works again, or it persists until the next capitalized letter is entered.

No other keys seem affected by this. The SHIFT key appears to be the only one where it might not respond at all if pressed. It doesn’t seem to depend on where you click it—whether in the center, left side, or right side of the keyboard, there’s no clear pattern.

I checked the Device Manager under Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Keyboards, but it reported no issues and suggested no action was needed. I also tried updating drivers, which returned “Best Drivers are Already Installed,” and I suspect my keyboard might not require any updates.

I disconnected and reconnected the USB cable multiple times, cleaned the ports thoroughly, wiped tissues through crevices, and even ran MalwareBytes and Windows Defender scans, but everything came back clean. There’s no dust buildup enough to block it.

It also doesn’t feel stuck when I press it, unlike other keys; it behaves similarly across different areas of the keyboard. It seems sensitive and inconsistent, but I’m not sure if it’s a Windows-specific or a Windows-related problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

because there’s no reason to spend extra just for this, especially since it doesn’t appear to be deteriorating as I expected. I asked the same question last month hoping someone could offer practical advice.
why bother responding when it seems unnecessary?
