Hey everyone, so a while back I wrapped up my first PC build in roughly 20 years (hey, things have definitely changed since those Pentium 4 days). The specs are pretty solid: Ryzen 7 5800X AMD 6700XT, Asus Crosshair Hero VIII Wi-Fi, X570 32 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 CL16 with two 16mm fans, plus Corsair ML120 RGB Pro fans and more. When I first posted the build, RAM was in DIMM slots B2 and A2 but kept getting post code errors. I tried basic fixes—re-seating the CPU, checking pins, testing each slot individually. Turns out the PC wouldn’t boot with RAM in B1 or B2 for some reason, so I’ve been fine using A1 and A2 instead.
Now I have a new motherboard coming soon, which should fix it. But here’s the thing: both HWINFO64 and CPU-Z show my RAM as CL22. In BIOS I set it to the correct MHz but never adjusted the timings myself, leaving everything on Auto. Could those faulty RAM slots—even if I’m not using them—be causing issues with CAS latency? Or was I just making a mistake and should have manually tweaked the settings?
