Yes, you're understanding correctly. Using an Ethernet connection allows you to connect your printer directly to your wireless router, and any PC linked to that router can print without needing installation software on each device. Ethernet is considered a more reliable method compared to Wi-Fi or USB for maintaining a stable connection to the printer.

Yes, yes, and yes.
You'll need to install the printer software for advanced functions. A Universal Print driver might suffice if you only require basic printing. On the other hand, the last point is similar. Once the initial setup is complete, it will appear as a standard network printer.

I need to locate a suitable printer. The Cannon Image Class MF236N has poor reviews on Amazon. Are there any discussions here that recommend printers functioning as intended? I want to stay within a $200 budget and only need printing, scanning, and copying capabilities. Wireless isn't necessary if it supports Ethernet.

They bring a smile to my face. Besides robust office and business class machines, most home models tend to be unreliable, often breaking down easily, and inkjet printers can be very costly to run. Laser printers perform better, but I've noticed the cheaper options have questionable durability—they usually fail after a few trials unless you print extensively. I'm considering switching to a Samsung printer to test their claims, though I haven't upgraded my budget laser printer. I don’t really care about multifunction devices, but the only high-end HP models I know that hold up are the more premium ones.
