Prime95 - Immediate Failure
Prime95 - Immediate Failure
13700k
RTX 4080
DDR5 32 Gbs (passed memtest86)
ROG Strix Z690-E (bios updated)
Windows 11
Test started because War Thunder keeps crashing and anti-cheat for third-party games is failing due to a hardware issue. Running Prime86 caused "Worker #2" to fail immediately. Advice needed: is this indicating a CPU problem or what should I do next? I’m not overclocked, tried XMP 1 but still failed.
Thanks for your help, Tyler
Hey there,
Prime95 imposes a significant strain on the CPU. It's mainly employed to verify the absolute stability of a specific CPU at a particular voltage. It doesn't reflect real-world usage in any way. Running it will push your CPU to its maximum voltage and maintain it at 100% load until throttling occurs or a core fails.
Have you cleared CMOS after the BIOS update? If not, you'll need to do so before proceeding.
You can utilize Cinebench R23 to execute a demanding but manageable workload for testing the CPU. Observe the clock speeds it reaches during operation. HWInfo can help track temperatures.
Hey, thanks for the update. I cleared the CMOS and executed the two programs as instructed. I think Cinebench is likely just a stress test rather than reporting errors.

(The third column indicated the maximum, with most runs staying in the low 90s and reaching a peak of 96.)
Hey, thanks for the reply.
I have not seen any details in event viewer/ reliability history that seem to be related to the problem, or have occurred when issues have arose as well as the Prime95 test.
I just wanted to mention that the issue with Prime95 is always immediate, and it consistently occurs on Worker #2 if that’s relevant. Because Faceit anti-cheat isn’t functioning due to a "hardware error," I think it’s likely detecting the same problem Prime95 is encountering.
