Here’s my setup: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0Ghz 8MB Cache Quad-Core, Corsair H80i Liquid Cooler (120mm x 2), ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO Z97 with PCI-E and SATA support, 8GB RAM (12800 DDR3 @ 1600MHz), 3.0TB SSD with 7200RPM, 128GB Samsung MZ-7KE128BW, 12x Blu-ray player, 16x DVD burner, GeForce GTX 980 graphics card, Windows 8.1 Professional, Apevia X-Hermes Blue audio, 4 fans, USB 3.0, and a Logitech keyboard/mouse. This is my first gaming PC, and I’ve spent years on consoles. If you’re still asking about GTX 980 price drops or when eBay will have good deals on used graphics cards after new GPUs launch, let me know!
I think it depends on how much of the 1000 series is available for sale. Retailers usually can't eliminate all the existing 900 series inventory if they don’t have any 1000 series in stock.
